Meat & Bread has become a Vancouver staple and a major foodie tourist destination thanks to them being featured on Triple D for the mouth-watering Porchetta Sandwich. Since being on the show they have opened another location in the business district along Pender Street just west of Burrard St.
On my 1st visit I made sure try this signature dish of Meat & Bread and it was good but what intrigued me was the specials they have daily. The creations have all been really bold and offer a nice option and let the sandwich genius’ have some fun in the kitchen!
The Thursday Special is what I went with. It’s a Fraser Valley Beef Chuck roast that is tomato braised then topped with pickled red onion & radicchio, black bean & lime humus and sauced with Chimichurri. Digging into this was a pleasure, the crunch from the bread was a great contrast to the soft and tender meat. The richness of the beef was just what you would expect from a great braised piece of meat. Where the big flavor came from was the pickled red onion and radicchio which added tang and pepperiness and the chimichurri which was packed with beautiful herbaceous flavor with a citrus punch.
Again a solid sandwich that combines ingredients you wouldn’t automatically think of. if you’re looking for something different from the traditional club house of BLT Meat & Bread is a must visit sandwich shop.
